Psychoanalysis is a talking cure that addresses the causes of unhappiness. It is an invitation to speak honestly about your life and what is on your mind, including thoughts and feelings that you may not be able to speak about elsewhere. Unlike other treatment modalities, psychoanalysis focuses on exploring the material you bring in with attention to the unconscious, aiming to build unique solutions rather than offering standardized advice. This means discussing patterns of behaviors, ideas, families, fantasies, dreams, mistakes, relationships, and repetitions. Through this work, the symptoms, emotional pain, and patterns that keep you stuck can fall away over time. You gain an understanding of what brought you to where you are. You develop a new knowledge of what you want. This practice offers a way forward that is more alive.
Psychoanalysis is an open-ended treatment. You go for as long as it seems necessary for you to go. People see me for sessions anywhere from one to four days a week. My practice includes people of diverse experiences, histories, and ways of life.
I hold sessions in person at my office in the Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland, online via video, and over the phone.
I offer professional consultation to practitioners interested in the Freudian and Lacanian orientation towards clinical work.
Please get in touch with me to discuss my fees, which can vary depending on the frequency of our sessions and financial need. I do not accept insurance for payment, but you may be able to use out-of-network benefits to help cover the cost.
